Our DVD solutions design uses Mediatek chipset (1388 & 1366) and uses ESS MPEG decoder. Complexity of the design are at the Mediatek chipset where analog servo signal are being picked up via 3-beam LED and analysed at MT1366 before passing it to MT1388.
MT1366 does most of the front-end control which controls 3-beam track error, amplifying servo
signal (from 6X to 32X speeds) as well as directly interface to the back-end processor CPU/MT1388. The design on the precision control at MT1366 is very critical or else, lots of error data will be piped to MT1388.
MT1388 is the main CPU for data manipulation/decoding, controlling of I/O peripherals, memory management/allocation, spindle motor control and lastly passing formatted video stream to ESS MPEG decoder before sending viewable video to display/TVs and viewers. Fine tuning and modification of HW and firmware at CPU/MT1388 are essential task for the complete DVD solution. User interface is also built onto the CPU’s firmware too, which further increase the complexity of SW development for our team. Apart from ESS decoder, which is a standard MPEG decoder, our team involved in designing all the surrounding interface HW and components to work with the brain of DVD chipset, MT1366/1388.
